I’m honestly uncertain as to how to respond to this. I acknowledge your point and that some of the content that comes through this blog is doubtlessly problematic.
Everything that has been posted, with only a dozen or so exceptions so far, has been submitted, and the sheer volume is somewhat staggering. I do think that the (admittedly joking) death threats are somewhat uncomfortable, and we will probably ask that people stop submitting them altogether, although we’ll let the ones that are still in the queue go through.
Still, this is a blog for English majors. I can only speak for myself, but I do value spelling, grammar, and communication skills quite highly. The way that the English language works is my truest passion, and part of that passion expresses itself in intense frustration when I come across the language used improperly. But I do recognize that some people are unable to reach that level through no fault of their own, and I’m not blaming them for that in the slightest. Whether or not that was my intention, though, I did offend you, and I’m sorry for offending you.
But when it comes to people who are perfectly capable of learning spelling and grammar and who persist in using it incorrectly — that is, the lazy or the willfully ignorant? That’s grounds for frustration, and that, in part, is what this blog is for: frustration, whether with coursework or with classmates.
